The Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists presents its Outstanding Explorer Award to Dennis R. Carlton. The award is given to individuals who are responsible for significant mineral or energy discoveries.

Dennis is honored for his involvement in his company’s successful coalbed methane exploration and development in the Raton Basin of southeast Colorado. Evergreen has established proven reserves of over 650 BCF gas in the Raton Basin. The company operates over 300 wells and has identified approximately 800 additional locations. Evergreen has established the Raton Basin as one of the premier coalbed methane basins in the Rockies. Dennis is a Director and Senior Vice President – Exploration & Operations for Evergreen Resources, Inc. and President of Evergreen Operating Company. He joined Evergreen in 1981 as Geologic Manager. In addition, Dennis is active in developing the coal bed methane potential of the Cheshire Basin of the United Kingdom and conventional exploration in the Tamarugal Basin of northern Chile.

Dennis was awarded B.S. and M.S. degrees from Wichita State University and is a Certified Petroleum Geologist by AAPG.

In recognition of his exploration successes, the RMAG presents Dennis R. Carlton with the Outstanding Explorer Award.
