Recipient: Michele Bishop

Published in: The Outcrop, October 2000, p. 8

The Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists is honored to present Michele Bishop with its Distinguished Service to RMAG award. This award is for members who have contributed to RMAG in meaningful and beneficial ways.

In her nearly 20 years as a member, Michele has been an active contributor of time and effort to RMAG in its many service and educational projects. She has served as Chair of the Publications Committee and as a member for a number of years. Michele authored or co-authored articles in the Outcrop concerning “popular geology”, the USGS Core Research Center, how to visit the RMAG web page and she also initiated the entertaining “Who is This Member” contest. She was instrumental in designing and building the Subcrop, RMAG’s web site on the internet. The “Virtual Field Trip” feature of the Subcrop was her brainchild. Also, she was elected 1st vice president of RMAG in 1997 and served on the board of directors that year.

Currently, Michele serves as editor of The Mountain Geologist, RMAG’s quarterly scientific periodical and is organizing a seminar for the annual AAPG convention in Denver in 2001.

In recognition of these many contributions, we are pleased to present Michele Bishop with the Distinguished Service Award.
