Title: GeoLand Ski 2008
Publication: The Outcrop, June 2008, p. 16
Fun in the sun with a few thrills and spills mixed in. If you thought you should have gone on the GeoLand Ski Day trip this year, you were right. On March 7th, Beaver Creek Resort greeted us with bluebird skies, 40 degree temperatures and an incredible snow base of 72″.
This year’s event set a record with over 150 participants enjoying a Friday on the slopes with friends, family and industry colleagues at one of Colorado’s most premier ski areas. The mountain offered terrain for all levels from the beautifully groomed trails in the Rose Bowl area to the steep and deep Birds of Prey runs, including the World Cup downhill challenges of Golden Eagle.
One of the day’s highlights was the return of the Nastar Ski Race challenge. The competition saw over 30 racers vying for a spot on the podium. First place went to Birgit Roesink with a time of 32.67 seconds followed by Ben Metz with a close second place finish of 32.82 seconds and in third place was Matt Ward with a time of 33.68 seconds.
The racers witnessed some amazing crashes but none more spectacular than the one by Tom Clark who took home the “Purple Hart Award” from our ever-popular Après ski party. Tom put it all on the line until that second-to-last gate!
Good friends, great food and a lot of sore muscles ended the day with a relaxing bus ride home. Mark your calendars for next years Ski Day on the first Friday of March.
THANK YOU to all the sponsors who make this event possible.
