Citation published in: The Outcrop, Nov. 2006, p. 28

The Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists is pleased to recognize Vito Nuccio with its Distinguished Service to RMAG Award for his commitment to acknowledging technical excellence with the selection of the Best Paper Award.

Vito has been a member of RMAG since 1984. For the last ten years, Vito has assumed the responsibility of reviewing the papers submitted to RMAG’s Mountain Geologist for their technical merit and subsequent publication. During this time, he has been responsible for selecting the Best Paper from the many excellent papers submitted. Vito’s diverse geologic background is what enables him to conduct the selection process so effectively.

Vito is a chief scientist at the U.S. Geological Survey, where his research has involved him in topics including coalbed methane resource development, basin-centered gas deposits in the Rockies, gas shales, thermal maturation and source rock studies. As a result of this work, Vito has co-authored and co-edited nearly 130 publications and thematic guidebooks.

Vito continues to apply the combination of his extensive technical knowledge and editorial expertise, making him an exceptionally deserving recipient of the Distinguished Service to RMAG Award.
