Title: Colorado Science and Engineering Fair

Publication: The Outcrop, June 2006, p. 11

The Colorado Science and Engineering Fair was held at the Lory Student Center of Colorado State University in Fort Collins April 6-8, 2006. Regional junior and senior high school winners from across the state participated in this event. The RMAG grants awards to exceptional projects in the earth sciences, so Susan Wager, Ed Coalson and Steve Goolsby represented the RMAG as Special Awards Judges. The RMAG awarded Certificates of Recognition and a cash award of $200 to each of the winners from the RMAG Foundation.

This year’s winners were Charisma Rascon (10th grade) for Cosmic Potholes – a study of impact craters, Chris Twombly (11th grade) for The Mystery of Teepee Buttes – an examination of the features found along I-25 north of Pueblo, Alexandra Proietti (7th grade) for ‘Its Hot, Hot, Hot in the Piceance Basin,’ a study of geothermal exploitation, and Hannah Piekenbrock (6th grade) for Erosion in the Denver Metro Area. Alexandra Proietti also had a winning project last year.

There were many fine projects and the judges enjoyed interviewing all of the students and giving them an opportunity to discuss their work. Congratulations to the all participants of this year’s Colorado Science and Engineering Fair.
