Title: GeoLand Ski Day 2006: What a Trip!
Publication: The Outcrop, May 2006, p. 23-24, 27-28
It was a beautiful sunny day for all who participated in GEOLAND Ski Day this year. Several people commented that this year’s trip was the best ever. On Friday March 3rd, a hardy group of geologists and landmen were comfortably transported by bus to Copper Mountain Resort. It was another great day of skiing and socializing at one of the premier annual RMAG events. A group of 120 downhill and cross country skiers and snow riders were rewarded with great snow conditions, with the mountain sporting a 62 inch base. The bump runs in Resolution Bowl such as Highline and Sawtooth were in great shape to carve like butter in the afternoon sun. Several snowboarders tested their skill, or lack thereof, in the Superpipe and on the rails of the Catalyst Terrain Park. It was great to see so many faces from the early days of GeoSki, such as Pat Irwin, Betty Rall, the Bortzs, the Bolyards and many others. The conference center and Jill’s Deck hosted one of the best apres ski parties/awards ceremonies ever.
At 5:30 p.m., the buses departed for a smooth and relaxing ride back to Denver with Warren Miller extreme skiing films playing on the video screens. This year’s trip was hosted by both the RMAG and DAPL. Chris Gough was Chairman for the RMAG and John Obourn was chairman for the DAPL. Also, a big THANK YOU to Robin Benko for all her help.
A special thanks goes out to the sponsors listed below who make this annual event possible. GeoLandSki Day is a great opportunity to promote better camaraderie for both company employees and RMAG/DAPL association members. If you weren’t able to join us this year, consider joining us next year for a fantastic ski day. To those of you who did attend, thank you for your participation, and we hope you had a great time.
