2007 – President’s Award

Award: President’s Award

Recipient: Steven W. Terlecki

Publication: The Outcrop, November 2007, p. 23

The Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists is pleased to present its President’s Award to Steve Terlecki for his tireless efforts to create an updated and fully functioning RMAG member database.

During a chance discussion in May 2006, it came to Steve’s attention that RMAG was still manually labeling all of its numerous mailings, including Outcrop publications, numerous newsletters and various registration forms for approximately 2300 members. In addition, Steve found out that because of this, RMAG was unable to publish a directory or to data-mine information about its membership, all of which greatly concerned the office staff, the Board and the members. Steve volunteered to organize the membership data in a spreadsheet format so that RMAG’s bulk mailing could be outsourced, saving between 16 to 20 staff and volunteer hours each month. This task proved a bit more challenging than Steve had anticipated, so he decided to write new software programs to achieve these results.

By December of 2006, Steve had created a user-¬≠friendly membership database just in time for 2007 RMAG membership dues and updates to be entered. Steve continued to assist RMAG office staff with tweaks to the system through March 2007. By May, 2007, after many hours of evenings and weekends contributed by Steve to get the database fully functioning, it was turned over to RMAG’s Web Designer who is currently working to make it available on line.

In recognition of his countless hours, patience and persistence through the process of creating an updated and fully functioning member database, the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists is pleased to present its President’s Award to Steve Terlecki.
