The Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists is proud to present a 2009 RMAG President’s Award to Robert R. (Randy) Ray for his work as General Chairman of the 2009 Annual Convention & Exhibition of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists.

Success for the convention did not come easily though, with tough economic times once again threatening the industry. Randy recognized the potential challenges and through his organizational skills was able to select a great team of volunteers best suited for planning and presenting an event which ultimately attracted over 220 exhibitors and 7200 attendees from more than 60 countries from around the world.

The attendees were drawn to the more than 1000 technical sessions with topics as varied as global climate change to how to squeeze gas molecules out of incredibly tight rocks. If this were not enough, the convention also boasted field trips, short courses, poster sessions, committee meetings, alumni meetings, spouse events, and other special events on behalf of the AAPG and the host society, the RMAG.

In appreciation of his leadership and perseverance which directly led to the overwhelming success of the 2009 AAPG Annual Convention & Exhibition, the RMAG presents to Randy Ray the President’s Award.
