Title: Food Bank of the Rockies Seeks Assistance from Energy Industry
Author: Spence Flournoy
Publication: The Outcrop, May 2009, p. 13
The Food Bank of the Rockies, the oldest free food distribution warehouse in the West, is looking for help from the energy industry. They are seeking cash donations from businesses and individuals as well as volunteers to pass out food and break down large cartons into smaller packs.
2008 saw a 30% increase in demand and only a 3% rise in donations. The Food Bank hauls 700 semi truck loads per year from 100 grocery stores and the USDA to their warehouse. They distribute to the Denver Metro area, Northern and Western Colorado and Wyoming. To date, Venoco, Echo Geophysical, EnCana, Whiting Petroleum and St. Mary’s Land and Exploration have been among the few contributors from our industry. Forest Oil, alone, raised $3640 from its employees and corporate.
Checks made out to FBR at 10700 E 45th Ave, Denver, CO 80239 would be gratefully accepted as a tax deductible contribution, 4% of funds collected go to overhead, the rest to food. Questions? I believe this would generate some positive publicity for our industry and make us feel good about where our charitable dollars are working.
