RMAG Tennis Tournament 2001

Title: RMAG Tennis Tournament Filled with Lots of Fun, Despite Early Rain

Publication: The Outcrop, November 2001, p. 17

Rain and wind hampered the early rounds of the 2001 Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists Tennis Tournament, held at Colorado Athletic Club at Inverness on September 7th. However, all of our dedicated tennis players showed up as planned, and were rewarded when the sun broke through at about 10:00 and perfect weather stayed with us for the rest of the day. The competition, food and prizes were great and everyone had an enjoyable day.

The A division was won by Scott Stapp, with Jim Amundson taking second place. Al Ambler took first place in the B division. In an RMAG tennis tournament first, Lou Bortz and John Osmond tied for second place and agreed to play a seven-point tiebreaker, which was won by Lou Bortz. Al Ambler also won the Jake Warden trophy, awarded annually to the senior tennis player who has won the most games during the day.

We extend many thanks to the veteran tournament committee of Tracy Galloway, Kim Vickery and Tim Lovseth for putting in the countless hours of hard work necessary to make the tournament a success. Thanks also to Kim Vickery for running the scorekeeper’s table and keeping the tournament running smoothly even when the weather didn’t cooperate. We would also like to acknowledge the assistance of the RMAG office and especially Sandi Pellissier, who provided administrative services.
