Title: On-The-Rocks Field Trip: Saturday May 31, 2003, Bedrock Aquifers of the Denver Basin,
Leader: Bob Raynolds, Denver Museum of Nature & Science
Publication: The Outcrop, May 2003
This trip will examine outcrops of the major bedrock aquifers in the Denver Basin. We will examine an integrated surface-to-subsurface interpretation of the water-logged lithologies that make up the key aquifers in Douglas County and discuss issues of depositional environment, water reservoir extent, and quality. We will also discuss water table elevation changes and challenges for future aquifer development. There will be an emphasis on the heterogeneous distribution of underground water resources and the depositional models developed to interpret the subsurface data sets.
The field trip will depart at 8:00 a.m. from the Highlands Ranch RTD Park 6 Ride, C-470 and University Boulevard.
Participants should bring water and a lunch. It is anticipated that the field trip will finish at the Park 6 Ride between 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.
