Title: GeoLand Ski Day 2010
Publication: The Outcrop, June 2010, p. 22-23
Once again a great time was had by all who participated in this year’s GeoLand Ski Day. Many people commented that this trip gets better every year. On Friday March 5th a hardy group of geologists, landmen and industry personnel were comfortably transported by bus to Copper Mountain Resort. It was another great day of skiing and socializing at one of the premier annual RMAG events. A group of 120 downhill and cross country skiers as well as a few snow riders was rewarded with great snow conditions sporting 3 inches of new snow on top of a 60 inch base. The steep and deep runs in Copper Bowl offered a challenge for even the most experienced, but this year’s theme honored our winter Olympians with a Nastar slalom race on the Copperopolis trail. The fastest eligible times for the men’s podium medals were run by Roger Klaus Rienmiller with a time of 26.05, Gerry Jean Claude Kesner 26.57 and Andy Bodi Mcarthy 27.02. On the women’s podium was our own Speedy Betsy Downing 29.20, Lindsey Vonn Woods 29.51 and Karen Carver Spaulding at 31.31. Some of the snowboarders tested their skills in the Superpipe end on the rails of the Catalyst Terrain Park. It was great to see so many new participants as well as those who have enjoyed this event for many years. The conference center at the base area and Jill’s Deck hosted a wonderful aprés ski party and medal awards ceremony with many awards honoring our athletes. At 5:30 p.m. the buses departed for a smooth end relaxing ride back to Denver with Warren Miller extreme skiing films playing on the video screens and a jelly bean challenge sponsored by Marlowe’s restaurant. This year’s trip was hosted by both the RMAG and DAPL.
Chris Gough and Larry Bennett were Chairmen for the RMAG and Birgit Roesink-MiIIer and Steve Johnson chairman for the DAPL. Also, a big thank you to Laure Mauro and the many others for all their help.
Special thanks go out to the sponsors listed below who make this annual event possible. GeoLand Ski Day is a great opportunity to promote better camaraderie for both company employees and RMAG/DAPL association members. If you weren’t able to join us this year, consider getting on board with us next year for a fantastic way to enjoy our wonderful mountains. To those who did attend, thank you for your participation and we hope to see you again next year.
See you on the slopes next year!
