Title: RMAG May Board of Directors Meeting
Author: Laura Mauro, Secretary
Publication: The Outcrop, July 2010, p. 20-21
The Board of Directors met on May 19th in the 2nd floor conference room of the University Building. We welcomed several special visitors including all three RMAG Foundation Trustees, Jim Huck, Laura Wray, and Tom Sperr; as well as Trisha Beaver from the Professional Awards and Public Issues Committees. The RMAG Foundation Trustees reported that they gave out a record of 15 scholarships of $2500 each to students who were recognized at the May 21st luncheon. The word is spreading about our scholarship program with 6 awardees outside of Colorado this year versus 3 last year. The Foundation is also underwriting the cost for students to attend the RMS-AAPG meeting in Durango and giving them money towards travel and lodging to support student education and networking at this event.
Trisha Beaver presented the Board with a list of nominees for AAPG Professional Awards who were approved for submission to AAPG. She also updated the Board on the “Meet the Candidates’ event. The Public Issues Committee has been working on bringing oil and gas industry professionals together with Colorado Gubernatorial and Senate candidates. This event is coming together and they are on target to have the event in mid to late September.
On the financial front, Treasurer Connie Knight and Treasurer-Elect Dave Eby made substantial headway on the 2009 RMAG audit. We received proposals from two accounting firms with great credentials and experience handling non-profit organizations. We are currently reviewing the proposals and plan to speak with each company and contact clients for performance references before we select our auditor.
The RMAG office reported active membership numbers are up from 1856 in April to 2120 this month. Thanks for getting those renewals in! Book sales are still performing well including the Paradox Basin Publication which is positive. We are making headway on the new RMAG website. Sandi and Josh are working on bids from several vendors and interviewed three companies at the end of May.
The 2014 RMS-AAPG meeting will be held in Denver. Because we are the host society for this event our Board was asked to nominate a local member to serve on the RMS-AAPG Committee for the next four years with the intent that he or she be the RMS-AAPG president when the meeting is held in Denver. The Board voted to nominate Elmo Brown for this position. Thank you, Elmo, for taking this on. We appreciate your commitment, dedication, and efforts!
The June BOD meeting was held on the 23rd at 4:00 p.m. in the University Building. The July meeting will be held on the 21st at 4:00 p.m. in the University Building conference room on the 2nd floor. Please join us if you want to see your Board in action or have anything you want to discuss!
